Bird's Nest for athletics and football competitions
 
The Beijing National Stadium, or the Bird's Nest for its architecture, is the main venue for Beijing Olympics in the Olympic Green which is located at the north end of the central axis of Beijing, China. The stadium will host the athletics and football competitions for the 2008 Summer Olympics, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies. It is located right next to the Beijing National Aquatics Center.

It is designed by the famous Swiss architect Herzog & de Neuron and China Architecture Design & Research Group. The construction started in December, 2003 and completed in March, 2008. The stadium can seat 100,000 spectators during the Olympics. It is 330 metres long by 220 meters wide, and is 69.2 meters tall. The 250,000 square metres (grass floor area) stadium is to be built with 36km of unwrapped steel, with a combined weight of 45,000 tonnes. The Stadium is to stage sports events at national and international levels, as well as cultural and entertaining activities after the 2008 Olympics.
