The National Indoor Stadium is an indoor arena located in the Olympic Green in Beijing, China, constructed for the 2008 Summer Olympics. The National Indoor Stadium is a characteristic architecture along with the Bird's Nest and Water Cube. Technologies of steel scoria backfilling, natural lighting and solar generating were applied to the construction which started in May 2005 and completed in October 2007.
The stadium has a capacity of 19,000 and a land surface of 80,900 square meters. It unveiled itself on November 26, 2007 for the artistic gymnastics test event - the Beijing Gymnastics International Invitational Tournament. At the 2008 Olympics, it will host the artistic gymnastics, trampoline and handball events. After the Olympics, the stadium can be used for sports competition, cultural and entertaining purposes and will serve as a multi-functional exercise center for local residents.
